Amistad Baptist Church launched its first worship service at Las Fiestas Event Center at 1501 W. Hwy 83 in San Benito on September 5, 2010.  We began this incredible journey with four families and God’s unfailing love, provision, and direction.  We met at this location for 3½ years and then relocated and merged for the next year and half with a local church with the intent of helping and supporting our brothers and sisters in Christ.  During the COVID-19 pandemic, Amistad continued to meet virtually through Facebook Live and Facebook Room. Amistad now meets in a renovated event center in La Feria, TX.

This journey has been a life changing experience for all who have become part of this ministry.

Amistad is a Spanish word meaning "friendship". We know that a relationship (friendship) with God, not a religion, is what makes our Christian experience meaningful and purposeful.  For this reason, this ministry is committed to obey the first and greatest commandment: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind”, Matthew 22:36-38.  We also want to establish a relationship (friendship) with our community which is the second greatest commandment: ”Love your neighbor as yourself.” Matthew 22:39

Our Mission

To Love God

• To provide a place of worship for the body of believers as they grow and mature in Christ through song, prayer, hearing of God’s Word, Bible study, giving and service.

• To raise up leaders and equip them for ministry.

To Love Others

• Reach the lost and a new generation for Christ by spreading the message of salvation (The Great Commission- Matthew 28:18-20) to the community.

To Serve the World

• Extend grace and truth to the community through Gospel-centered service.

• Get involved in doing mission work to help neighboring communities as a Church (Body of Christ) and partner with churches in the Rio Grande Valley and beyond.

Our Beliefs

  • We believe Amistad Baptist Church is part of the global body of Christ.

  • We acknowledge Jesus as head of the Church and rely upon his atoning sacrifice for justification through the forgiveness of our sins.

  • We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and is the rule and guide to our faith and practice.

  • We are committed to being faithful witnesses for Jesus Christ so that others may come to accept and forever receive Him as their personal Lord and Savior.

  • We are dedicated to teaching and training everyone to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Our Commitment

1. Know Christ Personally (Acts 2:37-41)

  • Just like Paul, we each need to have a personal encounter with Jesus Christ every day.

2. Commit Daily (Acts 2:47a)

  • The early church members devoted themselves to the apostle ’s teaching, fellowship, communion and prayer.

3. Worship Publicly (Acts 2:46a)

  • As the Christians gathered to break bread, they demonstrated their commitment to daily worship.

4. Grow Spiritually (Acts 2:42)

  • The church grew spiritually through their commitment to the apostle’s teaching and prayer.

5. Invest Eternally (Acts 2:44-45)

  • The church gained a heavenly perspective about money and reached out to meet the needs in their community through regular and sacrificial giving.

6. Relate Biblically (Acts 2:46b)

  • The fellowship that developed in this church was loving and committed. Rejected by their own families, their church home became a second family.

7. Serve Effectively (Acts 2:43,47a)

  • The church transformed the community through using the spiritual gifts Jesus gave them. Many miracles were witnessed.

8. Evangelize Joyfully (Acts 2:47b)

  • The early church members were full of joy. Their praise of God led to the favor of all people. Their lives were a witness to the transforming power of Jesus Christ.

Our Ordinances

We believe Baptism and The Lord’s Supper are symbols and are not necessary for salvation. However, they are a significant part of our Christian practice and worship.

Baptism

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." Matthew 28:19

Baptism symbolizes the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus that has made possible our salvation. (Romans 6:3-5; Colossians 2:12). We also believe that in Baptism, the total immersion of a person in water adequately symbolizes this death, burial and resurrection.

The Lord’s Supper

"For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, 'This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.' In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 1 Corinthians 11:23-25

In partaking of the bread and the cup, Christ’s disciples are to remember His sacrifice on the cross of Calvary as He gave his body and shed his blood for our sins. Christians believe the Bible teaches that the elements used in the Supper are not literally the body and blood of Christ. They are symbols of His body and blood. In eating the bread and drinking from the cup, a person does not actually partake of Christ’s flesh and blood. Rather, it is an opportunity to obey a command of Christ and to recall His sacrifice for us,His presence with us and His certain return (1 Corinthians 11:24-28).
